In collaboration with Canon USA, I excited to be sharing a new favorite idea for documenting your travels. I always come back from a trip with a lot of little bits and although most make it into my scrapbooks, I will have a few special pieces that I would like to be more visible. Enter a shadowbox. I picked this one up on sale at Hobby Lobby to create a Paris shadowbox.
Nothing makes me happy like when a company actually understands their customer and makes it easy to incorporate their product into my life. When that happens, there are spontaneous dance parties in the office/store/car. Canon definitely has done that with their printers and using the PIXMA printer for this project produced a serious dance party when I realized I could print photos on the printer from my iPhone. YES!
Download the app, set up the wifi, and away you go. You can select paper size, paper type, and border or borderless all from your phone. Since 90% of the photos I take these days are on my phone this is a huge bonus in a printer. I printed out a photo onto the 13x19 semi-gloss paper and then trimmed it down to 12x12 to fit inside my shadow box, pinning it onto the back panel.
I chose to add a few favorite Instax photos, a business card from a restaurant I love, and a loose piece of money that slipped back with me. Before setting them into the box, I adhered a small shipping tag onto the back of each piece so it would stand up at different depths inside the box. The shipping tags were perfect because they were thick + sturdy enough to keep all of the items propped up straight without tilting. I added a little bit of adhesive to where the tag stuck to the piece, then folded it and added adhesive to stick it to the bottom of the box.
At the top of the photo I added some notes using a Sharpie pen (which writes well on the Canon semi-gloss paper.) It says le reve, which means the dream, and the dates of my trip. The shadowbox is going to sit in my bedroom so I can always have sweet dreams of my summer in Paris.
